![]() ![]() Cornell Publications - Find information about your gun based on its serial number. I have just started collecting SAA's and would like to know where the serial numbers on the various generations and models are supposed to be located. I have the books that tell me what serial numbers were made when and I have the book 'A Study of the Colt Single Action Army Revolver' on order but was hoping for some info. In the mean time. JB The Kopec book you ordered has been my source for SN locations on SAAs. Locations vary depending upon the production year. But in my experience with my three early 1st gen SAAs, all in the 1885-1900 range, you'll find full or partial SNs in many of these places: On the barrel, beneath the ejector housing (partial); on the underside of the frame (full), on the underside of the trigger guard ahead of the finger loop (full); on the backstrap toe (full); inside the grips (partial); on the side of the cylinder (partial), but not on my 1900 model. Others will weigh in here and give you more finite locations for various production years. After the early 1st gens, things began to change, and I know very little about them.
